Genevieve was a famous seamstress for the worlds great ballet companies and fought in the French Resistance. That was many years ago and she now lives in Paris where she still dreams of being a dancer. She is wearing a costume of her own design and dances in her Parisian apartment late into the night.
If you would like to read her full story you can look here...http://farmlass.blogspot.ca/2015/ 11/she.html
Genevieve is a 12 and 1/2" sculpture made by the art of needle felting. The process goes like this:
She is made by working a very sharp barbed needle into un spun roving for many hours until the desired shape is found. The fibres are matted together making this a dry felted piece. Further detail is added including final colour, horsehair whiskers, ears, tail and her glass eyes are adhered into her head.
Genevieve's costume is made by piecing together vintage lace and hand sewing this as one piece onto her slim form. She is also wearing vintage bloomers and handmade felt ballet slippers.
In her hand she holds one of her favourite needles which is threaded with a gorgeous shade of rusty coloured thread from a vintage spool. Genevieve is permanently adhered onto the spool and then adhered onto a vintage wooden ruler divided in two. She has my makers button discretely sewn onto the piece and is also signed on the bottom of the sculpture. I have many more photos upon request. Just convo me and I'll be happy to send you more.
